Week one down and the Lazer wars proved to be Top of the Pops - not too hard to do though being the first event thus far. That said we rocked up to the venue and Steve put in an early push for 3 points on the Best On Ground award (BOG) with the comment to the 16 year old attendant -
"I'm here to pick up my kids - but these nerds want to play a game".
Very funny. So then, excited and unable to wait to play we had a few rounds of some racing car game. Then the real games began. 15 minutes of nerd vision played out in real time 3D experience. Steve played smart and took to the high ground wanting to ambush the opposition. This worked well until Jen ran up behind and shot him in the back - unusual for a wife and husband team. Megs was doing well "hiding" all in black running around with blinking blue lights flashing away. That was until Adam gained "Invincibility Mode" and racked up a quick thousand points.
All allegiances were lost as soon as the Yellow team rocked up for the second game. We all very quickly lost all pride when we were comprehensively beaten by a team of three 12 year olds. I think role playing, black stovepipes, lazer wars and the yellow team were all winners on the night.
Round One of the Urban Decathlon 2006 was contested at Dark Zone - Box Hill.
